In Rambling Talk

i have been a personal style blogger – officially – for four and a half years, and i frequently still get fascinated by the ways in which we make day-to-day sartorial choices. obviously they are influenced by our overall tastes and aesthetic views, but i know there is still so much more to these choices that we make. i have surely touched on the subject in posts long buried in my archives, and it is conceivable that i have too much idle time to be able to afford such curious thoughts now… but do humor me this little enquiry.
when i browse lookbook.nu or chictopia or the myriad blogs on the internet, for example, i frequently see looks from people that seem to have been put together in faultless symmetry. everything looks so harmonious and so overly impressive that i am left wondering why i haven’t thought up such brilliance myself. even with outfits that include unexpected pieces — a fancy heel with a sporty look, a menswear item injected into a sugary-sweet ensemble — i often question the processes that have led to making that sartorial decision.
was the irony intentional? was the juxtaposition of conspicuous opposites meant to create some stir, or perhaps hope to inspire others in this ever-evolving world of fashion? was there a practical reason behind it, perchance influenced by the weather or a place or occasion? were there deep-rooted philosophies and emotional persuasions that led to the pairing? or more interestingly, did it happen by happenstance — a throwing of the dice that somehow ended up being an affective style choice?
it could be that only a fashion-obsessed dork such as myself would be enraptured by the answers to these questions. there are certainly bigger problems in the world and i don’t need a crash course on the paradox of #fashionbloggerproblems, but as previously stated i AM a personal style blogger and these are the thoughts with which i choose to burden myself.
except they are not really a burden; rather a pleasant indulgence to distract oneself from the crazy world and its crazy problems. undoubtedly i will remain to be amazed by the sartorial oddities i witness in the world — both real and virtual. but i will, more importantly, continue to wear sneakers with houndstooth blazers for reasons that will likely fascinate critical minds. and to this query there is but a simple answer: because i can and because i choose to.
blouse – c/o simone’s closet
blazer – thrifted
jeans – thrifted
sneakers – converse
satchel – c/o parisian
ring – c/o FTC
