the dancer side of me
i wore this outfit to a streetdance/hiphop concert last night, entitled streetfuzion 8: ministry of dance.
tee – from a past concert
denim skirt – marithe francois girbaud
leather belt – thrifted
sneakers – lacoste
watch – levi’s
purse – zara
hoop earrings – from my dancing days (:
when i was a freshman in college, i auditioned for my university’s streetdance club. i was active for two years – i was part of streetfuzion 4 and 5 – but i had to leave because i couldn’t handle the stress and exhaustion (ugh, i am so lame). nonetheless, i had some of my best and most memorable experiences while i was a member of the club.
anyway, the concert was incredible (as always). i really see how they’ve evolved through the years. they have so many new skills and techniques and gimmicks, i don’t even know where to look! they had some incredible productions last night, mainly due to brilliantly chosen themes and extraordinary costumes and effects. of course, the dancing was pretty fantastic, too! my favorite was this eerie and darkly haunting sort of victorian-esque theme, where they dressed really beautifully (with voluminous skirts and frills and masks). i was so blown away by it all that i bought one of their handmade masks when the concert ended. the one that i picked is gorgeous, i think – i like how it’s a bit lopsided and imperfect. needless to say, i’ve been staring at it since last night.
sadly, videos from the actual concert haven’t been uploaded to youtube yet, so i just picked one of their performances from last december. it’s more or less what they performed for their big introduction, only with a few more people and better costumes. (:
sorry — i’m having the hardest time uploading the clip here, so i’ll just provide the link for now. hopefully in the future i’ll be less of a youtube spaz.
