La Salle Labrouste
after being closed for several years, france’s bibliothèque nationale at rue de richelieu in paris has opened its resplendent doors once more. classified as a historic monument since 1983, the labrouste room was realized between 1861 and 1868 and deeply rooted in parisian heritage. the masterpiece of henri labrouste is a “true architectural jewel, testimony to the modernity and inventiveness of its creator.“
the renovation work, set to culminate in 2020, is supervised by architect bruno gaudin and chief architect of historic monuments jean-françois lagneau. the whole structure — as well as the paintings, floor and furniture — has been beautifully refurbished and can now be enjoyed by readers, researches, and anyone wishing to pass the time in the company of history, art and breathtaking architecture.
