Bedroom Ideas: Shabby Chic
when talking about dream bedrooms, i like to imagine myself in a white-walled, rustic space. think shabby chic — but not too frilly — and filled with a delicate assortment of decor that is, on the one hand, totally random but on the other hand, also largely curated.
what can i say? i am a mishmash of sensibilities (if you follow my blog, you will have already known this).
since i have no immediate plans to move house or build myself a new abode, i will have to settle for a revamp of my current digs to fulfill my #bedroomgoals (sorry, i had to). for inspiration, i always make use of the ever-reliable pinterest. i have resource boards for home decor here and here, which come in handy for both actual redecoration AND a variety of activities that include drooling-over-pretty-things.
the bedroom i currently occupy isn’t huge, but is plenty spacious with its high ceilings and the nice amount of light coming in. but since i am renting, i can’t exactly renovate or add stuff to the existing structure of my room. so for now, it’s adios to my dream sloped ceiling, wooden beams, and that one wall with its beautiful exposed brick (or wood; i haven’t decided yet).
i have settled on three main aspects to focus on in redecorating my space: color theme, storage, and the actual bed (hey, gotta get that one right!).
now, to be fair, i don’t have any ONE specific color palette in mind for my ideal bedroom. as long as it looks clean and pleasant, i’m down with it. an abundance of white is a must, but i’d like soft hues of yellow and mint as well, mixed in with neutrals like beige and brown (mostly from wood accents). why not throw in touches of copper, too?
fairy lights, while not a color, are certainly a given.
storage is absolutely vital for someone like me who hoards a ton of crap stuff. i need drawers, wall hangings, and other little nooks that function both aesthetically and practically around my room. i’d love to use those pretty, worn-in cabinets and wall shelving made from upcycled materials (baskets, crates, etc.) that add a certain je ne sais quoi to the overall look.
finally, my favorite part: the bed. i spend most of my indoor time lounging in my room, so having a comfortable bed is a no-brainer. a simple, rustic frame would do me well — something charming and pretty but not overly ornate. then there is the all-important mattress, which should be soft and cushiony while providing ample support. i will definitely invest in one of these high-quality mattresses, which i’m certain would last me ages. sites such as Bedstar are always a good starting point to begin one’s search for the perfect bed.
as for my bed covers, well, i’m sure you can tell i am inclined to go the feminine, floral route. i just can’t help it!
now that i have all these laid out in actual mood boards, i am feeling way more motivated to get started on the room revamp. first task: the dreaded clean up and declutter. anyone wanna help? 😉
