Wishlist Wednesday: Affordable Kimonos
in all my years of blogging and dressing-up, i have owned my fair share of kimono-style jackets. i wear them with everything from skinny jeans to mini dresses, and if i were a beach-bum kinda girl, i’m sure i’d use them as swimsuit cover-ups as well. there is just something so innately fabulous about a kimono; like you put SOME effort into your look without doing TOO much work, ya know?

i find there to be one basic difference with kimono styles. it’s a fairly obvious distinction that, perhaps, not everyone finds too crucial but one that i always take into consideration when shopping for this wardrobe staple.
i am, of course, talking about the length.
shorter kimonos range from hip-length to somewhere below the bum area, and are generally easier to use on the daily. just throw them over a plain tank top or t-shirt, pull up a pair of denim jeans and you’re good to go. as a whole i also find shorter kimonos to be more flattering on, ahem, vertically-challenged gals like me.
kimonos in longer styles (we’re talking knee-to-calf lengths here!) are, of course, much more dramatic. they can still be used in day-to-day looks — as long as your school/office dress code permits it — but are best worn in settings where making a ‘statement’ is necessary. they make for perfect ensemble toppers in music festivals, parties and anywhere else you want to turn heads.
fabric choices and color variety are an entirely different matter, and are certainly preferential. designs can get fairly colorful or monochromatic after all (check out THIS plain black kimono that i am in love with!). either way there are a myriad choices for us nowadays, from designer to high street and everything in between.
personally, i’d rather go the affordable route with kimonos, which is why everything pictured above is $20 and below on the rosegal.com website. you can find more kimonos HERE, if you are in the market for one!
