Mother’s Cape
i mentioned in my interview on worldugly that one of my “fashion icons” is my own mother.
the truth is, we dress nothing alike. i don’t really know how to describe our difference/s, but generally she is just more “out there” with her outfits. i realize this seems strange as i myself dress to get noticed, but… i don’t know, mom’s fashion sense has just always been more noticeable than mine. i suppose it’s her adventurousness that is really what i admire most.
anyway i was looking through her closet and found this lovely blue dress. i tried it on and was speechless. it is just so pretty and wonderfully strange that i couldn’t help but fall in love. plus i have always wanted to wear a cape! but of course that would be ridiculous in our weather. this dress is literally the next best thing.
i paired it with mom’s checkered sash, which she usually uses as a headband. it also works well as a belt but i thought a nice bow around my neck would complete the look.
i wanted a shot of the back of the dress to show these awesome satin patches on the elbows, but right around that time a janitor passed by. haha.
and finally, may i introduce edward, my co-worker who also doubles as my photographer. and that’s me below laughing like a maniac and sweating profusely because, well, that’s how it is for me everyday that i take these pictures!
blue “cape” dress – mom’s
checked sash – mom’s
black chunky ring – yrys
peeptoe heels – ilaya

I love that your mom is adventurous! Some are too conservative, they go boring.

WOW that's such an amazing cape! I love the way you wore it! The color and shape is just stunning! Having your mother has a style icon doesn't necessarily mean you have to dress like her, it's more like taking certain elements from her look and putting your own creative spin on them
